Maritime Developments Ltd (MDL) has continued its support to DOF onboard the Skandi Acergy, with a flexible installation offshore Mauritania.
The MDL Horizontal Lay System, mobilised with a 50-tonne 4-track tensioner, alongside an MDL Generation 2 Reel Drive System, were used to lay 12” flexible jumpers in West Africa’s waters.
The scope was part of a major liquefied natural gas (LNG) project – one of major subsea developments in Africa, which will help address the domestic energy demand in the host countries: Mauritania and Senegal.
The project benefitted from the equipment being already mobilised on board the vessel following two previous projects: in Australia and the Mediterranean, saving costs on project engineering surrounding deck planning and port services.
Pierre Kuma, DOF project operations manager on the GTA Project, said: “Thanks to MDL, DOF was able to deliver quality services to our client by laying 3 critical path flexibles without compromising safety and operational efficiency.
“MDL’s adaptability to a dynamic project schedule and flexibility to respond to changes coupled with technical expertise were key ingredients to the exceptional service we were able to deliver to our customer.”
Scott Manson, project manager at MDL, said: “Together with DOF we have added yet another new location to our global track record – already a notable one in West Africa where our technology has proven to be a cost-efficient enabler for challenging scopes.
“This project in particular demonstrated the versatility of our flex-lay technology, where our signature spread has proven as effective in Africa as it did in the Mediterranean and Southern Australia – in all cases optimised handling was ensured by our expert field service team.
“Where else will DOF take us? Wherever the operation requires a leaner, more flexible approach to ensuring a safe, successful execution!”
