Discover a rare pair with Glen Garioch's whisky and cheese experience

Glen Garioch®, one of Scotland’s oldest whisky distilleries, has partnered with Meldrum House to create a mouth-watering whisky experience featuring exquisite Single Malt Scotch Whiskies and the finest Scottish cheeses.

The Rare Pair Experience

Glen Garioch®’s brand home nestled in the quaint and historic market town of Oldmeldrum, near Aberdeen in North-east Scotland, will host intimate whisky and cheese pairings within their bothy tasting room.

The tasting experience will include whiskies from the Glen Garioch® portfolio along with Scottish cheeses expertly paired by Walter Walker, Head Chef from Meldrum House Country Hotel and Golf Course and oatcakes from Mitchells Dairy.

The Perfect Pair

Sheltered within the Valley of Garioch, renowned as the finest barley growing area in the country, Glen Garioch® boasts a unique balance of ripening fruit, heather honey and a signature creamy texture. The robust yet smooth, velvety texture found in Glen Garioch® expressions perfectly accompanies cheese.

The complex flavours of the whiskies are enhanced by the rich cheeses to create a truly delectable taste experience. The balance of ripening fruit, heather honey and a base of barley malt spices and nuts, interwoven with Glen Garioch®’s signature creamy texture, brings the flavours of the cheeses to the forefront.

Three Rare Pairs

Walter Walker, head chef from Meldrum House Country Hotel and Golf Course has expertly paired three Scottish cheeses with Glen Garioch®’s Founder’s Reserve, 15 Year Old Sherry Matured and Vintage 1997.

The Founder’s Reserve with notes of butter cream, vanilla and fruity green apples has been paired with the Blarliath, a hard cheddar with a sharp finish and nutty notes. The rich and full-bodied Garioch® 15 Year Old Sherry Matured is accompanied by the creamy Kintyre Applesmoke, which complements the whisky with its mellow smoky flavour. The spiced pear crumble, ripe banana and toffee flavours found in Glen Garioch® Vintage 1997 has been partnered with the rich Strathdon Blue with hints of spice.

A Rare Pair - Whisky & Cheese Tasting costs £50 per person (maximum 10 per session). The session last approximately 2 hours and includes exclusively created whisky and cheese pairings as well as a tour of the distillery. Available Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 2pm. Advance booking is required.
