Scottish stand-up comedian and presenter Des Clarke has been named as the ringmaster at Clan Cancer Support’s circus-themed ball this year.

The event, sponsored by Stork, promises to deliver the magic and wonder of the circus with fire breathing, stilt walkers and a trapeze artist performing under a Big Top at Aberdeen’s Beach Ballroom.

Award-winning performer Des Clarke will host the charity’s flagship fundraiser on Saturday, September 28, with all proceeds going towards providing vital services for people affected by cancer in the North-east, Moray, Shetland and Orkney.

Guests will enjoy entertainment from popular local function band Glitz along with a three-course meal and a Fun House photobooth where people can capture memory keepsakes from the event.

Ruth McIntosh, Clan Cancer Support’s business development manager, said: “We are thrilled to have Des on ringmaster duties to help us celebrate all the fun of the circus at our biggest and most lavish fundraising event of the year.

“We’re also incredibly grateful to Stork for their sponsorship, to everyone who has generously donated prizes for our auction and raffle and to those who have already bought a ticket for the event.

“The countdown is now on with just two months to go and we only have a handful of tables remaining. There’s still time to support the event by contacting our fundraising team about a donation or booking a ticket. We look forward to welcoming new friends and old to the Beach Ballroom for what we are sure will be an unforgettable evening.”

George Akers, regional HSSEQ director at Stork, said: “At the beginning of 2024, Stork became ‘Part of the Clan’ and embarked on our two-year staff-nominated charity partnership.

“To date, our colleagues have tackled the burning embers of the Firewalk, strode the 18-mile Kiltwalk and will soon be taking on the Beast Race, all on behalf of this extremely worthwhile cause.

“As Clan celebrates its 40th anniversary, we are incredibly proud to be the headline sponsor of this year’s ball, championing the crucial work they do to provide support for those living with cancer and their families.

“We’re very much looking forward to our partnership growing and evolving with Clan in the years to come.”

The ball will take place at the Beach Ballroom on Saturday, September 28. Tickets cost £100 per person and a limited number of tables of 10 are available at £1,000 each. The VIP packages are now completely sold out, however Grandstand Ambassador packages are still available for business looking to attend and have their branding featured at the event.
