Roz McCall MSP, the Scottish Conservative and Unionist representative for Mid Scotland and Fife, recently visited Deeside Timberframe’s Throsk manufacturing site, accompanied by councillor Thomas Heald of Dunblane and Bridge of Allan.
The visit highlighted Deeside Timberframe’s contribution to supporting the UK Government's ambitious target of delivering 1.5 million new homes over the next five years.
The visit provided an opportunity for the MSP and Councillor to see firsthand how timber frame construction is uniquely positioned to address the productivity, sustainability, and quality demands of modern housing projects. With the UK Government's Timber in Construction Roadmap emphasising the need for sustainable building materials and Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), Deeside Timberframe’s advanced offsite manufacturing processes align perfectly with these national priorities.
During the tour, managing director David Crawford showcased how the company’s innovative timber frame solutions help streamline construction timelines, reduce carbon emissions, and support sustainable housing delivery across Scotland and beyond.
Roz McCall MSP commented on the visit: “It was fantastic to visit Deeside Timberframe and see how this Scottish business is driving innovation and contributing to the delivery of much-needed housing. Timber frame is clearly a major solution in helping us meet our housing targets while aligning with sustainability goals. I was particularly impressed by some of the recent additions in machinery to the Throsk site, which will only boost efficiencies further.”
Deeside Timberframe has played a significant role in enabling faster and more sustainable housing developments through its offsite manufacturing capabilities, which are designed to meet modern regulatory standards, including Part L compliance and Passivhaus standards.
David Crawford, managing director at Deeside Timberframe, said: “Our team is committed to supporting the Government’s housing and sustainability goals by providing high-quality timber frame systems across the UK. Visits like this allow us to demonstrate the real-world impact of our work and highlight the potential of timber frame construction as a vital part of the solution to the UK’s housing challenges.”
The visit also reinforced the importance of fostering relationships between government and industry to address housing shortages while meeting net-zero obligations..
