Two world champion skydivers are set to drop into the North-east in May as part of a highly topical conference which aims to shine a spotlight on the challenges faced by organisations managing business risk.
Norwegian daredevils Bjørn Magne and Espen Fadnes, both renowned for their high-octane extreme sport stunts, will be parachuting into the `Managing Risk The Matrix Way` conference which is to be held at Ardoe House Hotel on Thursday, May 26.
Alongside travelling the world to chase adrenalin-filled projects, both are safety professionals and will share their experiences and their dynamic take on corporate risk with delegates.
The conference, which has been organised by Aberdeen-based Matrix Risk Control, will also welcome a host of other keynote speakers including Bob Keiller, chairman of Scottish Enterprise, John Smith, chief executive officer of MPC Group Australia as well as Colin Maclachlan, star of Channel Four’s reality TV drama SAS: Who Dares Wins and who himself is a risk management consultant.
As the first event of its kind to be held in Scotland, the conference is set to be a blend of informative speaker sessions and workshops, with managing risk and procedures for doing so effectively within a stressed industry whilst sustaining profitability the key theme throughout the day. The event will also include a charity dinner at night, held in support of North-east cancer and haematology charity Friends of Anchor.
Mhorvan Sherret, director at Matrix Risk Control, said: “Managing business risk has never been more important in today’s environment and we wanted to establish an event to help shine a spotlight into what is an incredibly important area that businesses from all sectors should take a vested interest in.
“Through `Managing Risk The Matrix Way`, we have developed an innovative analytical tool which is designed to help organisations explore efficiency saving opportunities, whilst retaining a healthy and measured balance of risk exposure.
“For the event, we’ve gathered an informative range of speakers who promise to use their unique experiences to ask questions and showcase a different perspective to business risk and how it can be best managed.
“From Bjørn and Espen sharing their experiences of extreme sport and the risk involved, to Bob Keiller discussing corporate risk and Colin McLachlan explaining what his time in the front line told him about taking risks, we really will have something for everyone. And of course, we couldn’t have Bjørn and Espen travel from Norway without showcasing some of their skills and both have agreed to a special performance which will certainly be one of the highlights of the day.
“In tough times, cutting costs can often be the kneejerk reaction that people turn to but the risk of doing so is not something that one can take lightly. We hope that the conference will appeal to all decision makers and influencers who hold responsibility to sustain profitability and drive efficiency while maintaining a secure working environment.
“We want to help these individuals reassess their stance regarding risk in the workplace and if they are able to join us, we look forward to welcoming them to a fun and informative day.”
