Aberdeen-based diamond wire cutting specialists CUT attended the 7th Annual Aberdeen – Perth WA Gateway event in association with the Government of Western Australia, at Norwood Hall, Aberdeen this week.
In the last few years CUT has identified Australia as an area with high potential for external cutting and has been very successful in winning cutting projects. Examples include the MEFF, Woolybutt, Griffin and Enfield projects, where it has cut targets ranging from 5” mooring chains, to 6m diameter riser turret moorings.
Bruce Sinclair, business development manager said: “We have just been awarded another major cutting project for Summer 25, Western Australia.
"CUT has also completed numerous projects in Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Thailand and other SE Asia regions, supported by our Singapore base.”
CUT is part of the Scottish Development International trade delegation heading to EXA - Energy Exchange Australia in March. Bruce said: “We will continue to raise awareness of CUT as the global experts for external cutting, and inform the market of the Australian projects already completed, our unique range of machines, and the patented cutting solutions we provide.”
CUT is a finalist for the Northern Star Business Awards 2025 in the "Going Global" section. This reflects its ambition for and achievements in taking CUT to every corner of the world.
In 2024 a publication by the Government of Western Australia Department of Energy highlighted actions required to minimise risks while conducting offshore platform removals.
Actions required included “use castellated cut designs where a possibility of rotation (turning moment) of the load exists”.
Bruce explained: “CUT has exclusive use of a patent for these castellated/step cuts. Therefore, we are the only diamond wire cutting specialist who can provide the castellated/step cut service mentioned. This is a game-changer for platform removals.”
