Harriet Cross bucked the national trend of Conservative losses as she became the first MP for the new Gordon and Buchan constituency.
The seat, which Richard Thomson won in 2019 with a marginal majority of just 819, was again too close to call ahead of the vote count.
Expectations were that the margin would, again, be below 1,000 and they proved to be true as Ms Cross took the constituency by just 878 votes.
The declaration, made just before 6am, was met with jubilation among the Tory camp who finished the night strongly after earlier disappointments.
But Ms Cross admitted that she, and political colleagues from across the spectrum, have work to do to regain trust.
"I know, I know that politics has not been in the best of place and I know that lot of people feel disillusioned," she said.
"It's up to me and it's up to everyone who is now elected in this new parliament to put that right and to serve you as our prime focus and that is what I promise to do.
"I made pledges to you...there ones which I picked up after speaking to you on doors for more than a year now.
"I know they're important to you and that means that they're important to me.
"It would be wrong of me not to acknowledge Richard for his service to Gordon over the last five years. I know you'll have done great work."
