Albyn School’s Faculty of Creative Arts is celebrating a thriving season with a dynamic lineup of performances, showcasing the exceptional talent and dedication of its pupils.

With a busy calendar of events, the school is bringing both classic and contemporary productions to life, including The Great Gatsby and Matilda Junior the Musical.

Pupils across year groups in both the Lower and Upper School have been working tirelessly to perfect their performances, demonstrating the school’s strong commitment to the arts.

“Our pupils continue to amaze us with their creativity, enthusiasm and dedication to the performing arts,” said Laura Sinclair, faculty head for creative arts at Albyn School. “This season is particularly special as we are able to bring such a variety of productions to the stage, each offering unique opportunities for our young performers to shine.”

The highly anticipated adaptation of The Great Gatsby was showcased at the school last week and enticingly transported the audience to the glamour and excess of the Roaring Twenties.

Working closely with the Glasgow-based dance company Curious Seed, the talented cast of eleven used stylised movement, sound and projection to convey the spiritual emptiness that lies beneath the glitz and glamour of the 1920s in New York.

Led by Jane Williams, the Principal Teacher of Drama at Albyn School, the cast have stretched their acting abilities, perfecting physical expression and accents to deliver a bright and minimalist depiction of the well known novel.

“The cast have shown great commitment and attention to detail, taking on a vast array of characters,” Jane detailed. “It’s always amazing to see the actors finally perform to an audience after months of careful and challenging work.”

The Faculty of Creative Arts now turns its attention to Matilda Junior the Musical which promises to deliver an energetic and heartwarming story of resilience and rebellion, brought to life through powerful performances and captivating musical numbers. Months of preparation involving pupils, staff and parent volunteers will culminate in three evening performances on 26, 27 and 28 March.

In addition to these headline performances, Albyn School is hosting a range of artistic events, from city wide performances, national competitions and industry professional led workshops, reinforcing the school’s vibrant creative scene. These opportunities not only nurture pupils’ artistic expression but also build confidence, teamwork, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts.

As the curtain rises on this exciting season, Albyn School continues to affirm its place as a hub of artistic excellence in Aberdeen, inspiring the next generation of performers, musicians and artists.
