The annual Caithness Christmas Show and Sale will take place at Quoybrae Auction Mart on Monday and Tuesday December 2 and 3.
The show will commence on Monday December 2 at 6.45pm, with the judging of the Prime Lambs and Prime Cattle sections followed by the Baby Beef Competition. The sale will commence on Tuesday December 3 at 10am.
Entries for all sections close on Wednesday November 27 at 5pm.
“We encourage everyone to get their entries in before the closing date, ahead of the annual Christmas Show," said Scott Chapman, northern sales manager at Aberdeen & Northern Marts.
"The event offers a fantastic opportunity for exhibitors across the North of Scotland to show their top-quality prime cattle and sheep. We are also delighted to see the Baby Beef Competition return for a second year, supporting the next generation of stockmanship.”
Blair Duffton, 2 Bogie Street, Huntly, is set to judge the Open and Young Farmers Prime Cattle section, kindly sponsored by NFU Mutual, Thurso and Dingwall.
The Baby Beef Competition, sponsored by Vauldale Engineering, will be judged by Mark Munro, Invercharron, Ardgay. The competition aims to encourage Young Farmers to practice their showmanship ahead of the Overwintering competition in April.
This year’s Prime Lamb sections will be judged by Scott McRobbie, Woodhead Brothers, Turriff. The open pairs of Prime Lambs section is kindly sponsored by Fiona and Cath of the Home Bakery, Wick, while Duncan & Todd, Wick is kindly sponsoring the Young Farmers pairs of Prime Lambs section. The Pen of 10 Untrimmed Lambs is sponsored Mr Wullie Gulloch.
At last year’s show a top price of £3,000 was achieved in the Prime Cattle section for a Limousin Cross Bullock from G W Begg, scalling 630kg, selling to Mackay’s Hotel, Wick. The champion Pair of Prime Lambs consigned from C Angus, West Mey, Mey was a pair of 54kg Beltex which realised £520 to the same buyer.
