Councillors are this week set to vote on the the possible introduction of a 7% tourist tax in Aberdeen.

Last month, the Chamber's Morning Bulletin revealed the Granite City was lining up a move to follow Edinburgh in bringing in a levy on overnight visits to the city.

The capital agreed a 5%, and Glasgow is also in the consultation phase for introducing a levy at the same rate.

But councillors in Aberdeen are this week being asked to approve a tourist tax at 7%.

A report set to go before officials at Wednesday's Aberdeen City Council finance committee recommends councillors green light the proposed 7% levy.

If they do, the scheme will advance to a consultation period.

The tax, understood to equate to around an average £5 increase to the cost of an overnight stay, would not be introduced until April 2027 at the earliest.
