A study into regenerating an empty retail unit on Union Street has been given the green light.
Aberdeen City Council are to support a feasibility study on the prospect of redeveloping the former British Home Stores unit.
Following the closure of the store last August, Councillors unanimously agreed to jointly fund the study alongside a private developer and would look into a number of options for the site.
Aberdeen City Council Finance, Policy and Resources Committee Convener Councillor Willie Young said: “The council is currently considering a number of key sites across the city which, with the right development and investment, could enhance connectivity within the city, bring economic benefits and increase city centre living in line with Aberdeen’s City Centre Masterplan strategic objectives.
“We are working with the private sector to explore opportunities to unlock such potential and the former BHS site is one of the key site’s that could advance the regeneration of the Union Street area.”
Council officers will report back to the committee on the findings of the study in February.
