Council in call for LGBT people in Aberdeen to help meet the needs for more foster carers and adopters

Aberdeen City Council is joining in the UK-wide LGBT Adoption and Fostering Week which runs from March 4-10.

The council is encouraging LGBT people to help provide homes for children and young people by becoming either foster carers or adopters.

Education and Children’s services convener, councillor John Wheeler, said: “We are hoping to encourage potential LGBT adopters and foster carers to come forward and provide loving, stable homes for children in Aberdeen.

“Aberdeen City Council’s first priority is to support children and young people to remain with their families. However, that is not always possible and so our Fostering and Adoption Service needs fostering and adoptive placements for our children to enable them to continue to grow up in their city and in close proximity to family and friends”.

Isabel McDonnell, Children’s Services Manager, said “We are pleased to again be supporting LGBT Fostering and Adoption Week and would be interested in hearing from people who have given some thought to either becoming a foster carer or adopter.

“If anyone feels that they can offer stability, love and flexibility to help a child or young person with whatever support they may need we would encourage them to get in touch and find out more.”

To mark LGBT Fostering and Information Week, an informal information event is being held at the Westburn Centre, AB25 2QA on March 6, 5-6.30pm. his is an opportunity to meet foster carers, adoptive parents and staff to find out more.
