Cornerstone's chief exec wins Director of the Year

The Chief Executive of Scottish social care charity, Cornerstone, was last night announced as the Aberdeen and Grampian Director of the Year at the Institute of Directors Scotland Awards 2016.

Edel Harris triumphed in the category, which recognises the region’s highest achieving directors and picked up her award at a ceremony at Glasgow’s Crowne Plaza.

Despite challenging market conditions, Edel’s ambitious strategy has enabled Cornerstone to continue to grow and maintain its reputation as a pioneering provider of high quality social care services, as well as extending the organisation’s reach across Scotland.

Her leadership helped Cornerstone generate an annual income in excess of £36 million and the organisation now provides support to more than 2,600 people across 20 local authority areas in Scotland.

Last year Edel was appointed President of the Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce - the first female President in the 160 year history of the AGCC, and the first President of any British chamber from the third sector.

Cornerstone Chair, Peter Nicholson, commented: “This award recognises the tireless work Edel does for Cornerstone, the third sector and the wider business community.
“With Edel at the helm, Cornerstone continues to grow and support more people with disabilities across Scotland, despite facing serious challenges in the current economic climate.”

Edel added: "Thrilled to have been recognised at the IoD Scotland Director of the Year Awards. This award is testament to the hard work and commitment of everyone who works for Cornerstone and our terrific Board of Directors."

Cornerstone provides care and support services for adults, young people and children across Scotland who live with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, autism, dementia and other support needs.

Since 1980, it has grown to become a leading charity and now generates annual incomes in excess of £36million. Supporting over 2,600 people each year, Cornerstone delivers services across 20 local authority areas in Scotland.
