Leading Scottish social care charity, Cornerstone, has been recognised as one of the country’s top training providers at an awards ceremony in Edinburgh.
The charity has been delivering SQA Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs) in Care and Management to its staff since 1995, enabling them to better carry out their work with vulnerable people and ensure they are compliant with rules set out by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).
Cornerstone was recognised with the SQA Star Award for Lifelong Learning (Centre) after the judges were impressed that 90% of Cornerstone employees believed their SVQ helped them to provide a better quality of service to their clients.
Fiona MacLean, learning and development assessor at Cornerstone, collected the SQA Star Award at the ceremony at Edinburgh’s Assembly Rooms and said: “We are delighted to have received this prestigious award which highlights the success of all our candidates throughout the business in achieving their SVQ qualifications.
“This award is testament to the hard work put in by the whole L&D team and our staff throughout the past year and cements our reputation for staff training and quality delivery.”
The trophy is the latest award given to Cornerstone’s learning and development (L&D) team in recent months after they achieved the Provider of the Year Award from the Scottish Training Federation (STF) and accreditation from the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM).
SQA chief executive, Dr Janet Brown, said: “I have been overwhelmed by the great stories that I have heard from this year’s finalists. I have been privileged to hear of some incredibly inspirational and often quite moving journeys. Our winners provide a shining example to us all.
“While our learners’ achievements are rightly being recognised, these success stories don’t just happen on their own. It is worth remembering the help and support of schools, colleges, employers, and training providers and the people who give learners the guidance and encouragement they need to realise their potential.”
Cornerstone provides care and support services for adults, young people and children across Scotland who live with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and other support needs.
Since 1980, Cornerstone has grown to support more than 2,200 people each year, delivering services within 18 local authority areas across Scotland. More information on Cornerstone can be found by visiting www.cornerstone.org.uk
