Cornerstone receives massive festive boost from AWPR/B-T team

Hundreds of children, young people and adults across the North-east are to receive a special gift this Christmas.

This is thanks to a huge donation to a Giving Tree campaign by workers from the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route/Balmedie to Tipperty (AWPR/B-T) contractor. The AWPR/B-T contractor’s team delivered 700 gifts to Scottish social care charity, Cornerstone, who will distribute them to many of the people they support across the North-east.

The Giving Tree scheme has seen a variety of organisations from across Scotland signing on to host a Giving Tree from which employees picked a present tag and donated a gift of their choice.

The presents have come in all shapes and sizes, from puzzles and DVDs to sensory toys and sports kits. Every present donated will help someone supported by the charity to enjoy a little bit of magic this Christmas.

Cornerstone provides care and support services for adults, young people and children across Scotland who live with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, autism, dementia and other support needs.

Yvonne Gilfillan, CSR Manager for the AWPR/B-T contractor, said: “The AWPR/B-T project team is delighted to support Cornerstone in offering care and support to those living in the North-east. We are conscious that not everyone has the opportunity or means to celebrate over the festive period, but hope that the gifts donated will help to bring some comfort.”

Edel Harris, Cornerstone CEO, added: “We are very grateful to the AWPR/B-T contractor staff and all of the other organisations who have supported the Cornerstone Giving Tree this year. Their incredibly generous donations will bring joy to so many of the people we support in the North-east and across Scotland.”

Since 1980, Cornerstone has grown to become a leading charity, supporting over 2,600 people each year and delivering services across 20 local authority areas in Scotland.
