A concert in Aberdeen by world-famous classical singer, Katherine Jenkins OBE, has raised £30,000 for charity.
The Welsh-born lyric mezzo soprano visited Aberdeen’s His Majesty’s Theatre for the one-off show, delighting a near sell-out crowd and was supported by the Aberdeen-based chamber choir, Con Anima and Zoe Hodi, a 15 year old violinist at the Aberdeen Music School.
Sponsored by BP, the event was organised by the Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust, which chose Scottish social care charity Cornerstone as the beneficiary of the concert.
Cornerstone provides care and support services for adults, young people and children across Scotland who live with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, autism, dementia and other support needs.
Edel Harris, chief executive of Cornerstone, said: “We are very grateful to the Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust for choosing Cornerstone as the beneficiary of what was a fantastic night, and to BP for sponsoring this special concert.
“The £30,000 raised will be a tremendous support to our work providing specialist services for adults, young people and children across the North-east who have learning disabilities, physical disabilities and other complex support needs.”
Lord Provost George Adam said: “This was a very special one-off concert for the Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust and I am delighted that so much money was raised for Cornerstone, through ticket sales and additional generous donations on the night.”
Established in 1980, Cornerstone supports over 2,600 people each year and delivers services across 20 local authority areas in Scotland.
