Corex receives further recognition for commitment to innovative use of research & development

Aberdeen and Cairo based core analysis and formation damage specialists, COREX celebrate further success as they were awarded for their commitment to innovative use of research and development at last Thursday’s Northern Star Business Awards.

The event, organised by Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce and held at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre, recognises companies throughout the North-East for their exceptional accomplishments across a range of fields from energy to innovation, people development to customer service.

The award presented by celebrity BBC presenter, Louise Minchin, was judged by a panel including Wood Group PSN, Scottish Enterprise and Robert Gordon’s University and celebrates a company that has demonstrated an innovative use to Research and Development (R&D) to create commercial growth and gain competitive advantage. COREX took home the prestigious prize, facing competition from other North-East companies.

Earlier this year, COREX was also ranked first among the oil and gas sector companies in the UK’s first Intellectual Property ("IP") League Table, IP100, and secured the top spot among businesses in Scotland and a second position UK-wide.

Established over 40 years ago, COREX is an international service provider of improved hydrocarbon recovery analytical services and is focused on maximising economic recovery and mitigating risk for their loyal customer base. Throughout their impressive lifespan as independent specialists, COREX has built its business for over four decades on innovation and customer service ideals but the ability to patent ideas has been a relatively new implementation to which the support and funding of Scottish Enterprise has also helped them achieve.

COREX CEO, Stephen Anthony commented, “We are delighted to bring export and innovative investment into the North East and following the recent IP100 accolade, it is another fantastic achievement and very proud moment to be rewarded for our continuous efforts in R&D from our local Chamber.”

COREX is recognised as a leading service provider in developing innovative ideas and solutions that help drive improved recovery factors and is a fundamental part of their companywide strategy. Following an internal strategy review last year with strategic marketing company Genoa Black, COREX developed their blueprint for success through their internal quality procedure programme, COREXCELLENCE and COREXPLORE. The programme promotes employee engagement across work streams and helps foster innovative thinking through client leadership. This includes allowing staff the time to develop ideas and processes that could help solve particular client problems and further benefit the industry.

COREX Chairman Graham Robertson, who collected the award commented, “We are extremely proud of this award especially given the recent down turn in the oil and gas industry. For years, COREX has been recognised as the leading service provider in core analysis and we are committed to developing innovative ideas and solutions that keep us at the forefront of the industry.

Currently working with clients worldwide in the US, Asia, Middle East and Europe, COREX is looking forward to continuing its research and development as it leads the way for the industry and sets their sights to create and become the leading globally independent Improved Hydrocarbon Recovery company.
