Aberdonians are being asked to share their stories and items of interest from times of conflict for a new gallery in the city's Remembrance Hall.
Aberdeen Art Gallery, the Remembrance Hall and Cowdray Hall are closed until winter 2017 as part of a £30million redevelopment project Inspiring Art and Music.
On re-opening, the Remembrance Hall balcony will have digitally captured memories submitted by members of the public, which will create a space that will be reflective, informative, varied and relevant to the people of Aberdeen.
The opening display will explore different ways of honouring people who served in the First World War so the gallery team is particularly keen to obtain digitised versions of relevant material such as photographs of war memorials or medals awarded to local relatives, and details of tales passed on through the generations about local people's experiences during the Great War.
The gallery team is also keen to find out if people have particular music that they associate with such memories as they may be able to play recordings of the music in the gallery.
Aberdeen City Council's Deputy Leader Councillor Marie Boulton said: "The Remembrance Hall belongs to the people of Aberdeen so it is fitting that the venue will have gallery displays created from public contributions, where people can reflect on times of conflict significant to them.
"I'm sure there are many families in the city who have stories to tell and items of interest which relate to the First World War and this gallery will enable those memories to be shared.”
The remembrance display will change and there will be many themes that will be explored including current and recent conflicts, the Falklands War, the Second World War, post-war civil defence and training for conflict such as military cadet life. The displays will also feature the experiences of those left at home when their loved ones go off to war.
These digital exhibitions will evolve, incorporating individuals own responses to material shown in the space.
