Local residents will have another opportunity to comment on plans for a new housing development in the Tillydrone area of Aberdeen at a consultation event next week.

The City Council is seeking views on proposals for 286 houses and flats at the former Tillydrone and St Machar primary school and Aberdon House sites on Harris Road.

Following input from the public on the initial plans, the proposals have been amended and the December 7 event offers a further chance to comment before an application for planning permission is submitted.

The drop-in consultation event will be held in St George’s Church, Tillydrone, and is open to all from 2pm to 7.30pm.

The development would form part of the housing objectives outlined in Aberdeen City Council’s Strategic Infrastructure Plan (SIP).

The City Council agreed in October to enter into a partnership deal with Places for People to deliver a step change in the supply of affordable housing in the city.

Thousands of new properties are planned to help address a shortage of housing, which has become a barrier to the continued economic growth of the region.

Aberdeen City Council Leader, Councillor Jenny Laing, said: “I would encourage as many people as possible to come out and have their say on these plans
“This council has ambitious plans to deliver a step change in the supply of housing and has agreed a partnership deal with Places for People to deliver on that pledge.

“We have recognised that there has been a shortage of low-cost accommodation in this city, which has been one of the primary reasons for difficulties we have had in recruiting key workers to the city in areas including education and health.”

David Cowans, Places for People Chief Executive, added: “Alongside Aberdeen City Council, we will deliver thousands of new homes for local people so it’s important local people have the opportunity to have their say.

“The plans have already seen some revisions based on previous feedback, and this latest consultation event will be a chance for the community to see the updated plans.”

The partnership approach with Places for People will mean that the delivery of affordable housing will not rely on public funding and can be developed to meet need and demand.

The partnership will build, own and manage housing for rent targeted at a range of needs, which include key workers on modest incomes.

The SIP housing project will support, and is in addition to, Aberdeen City Council’s own building programme.
