Following a series of successful public engagement events, the consultation on strategic transport improvements for a north east travel corridor continues online.
North-east residents, commuters and businesses are able to have their say online on options identified as part of a study for improving transport connections between Fraserburgh, Peterhead and Aberdeen.
A series of four public exhibitions were held around the study area in late October and early November, with representatives from Nestrans, Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire councils, and the consultants, on hand to answer questions.
The events in Bridge of Don, Ellon, Fraserburgh and Peterhead allowed attendees to view exhibition material detailing the seven options which have been identified as opportunities for addressing the current travel problems and future transport aspirations of the area.
The options, covering a mix of road upgrades, bus travel improvements and rail options, were identified by the trio of consultants undertaking the study (SIAS, Peter Brett Associates and Energised Environments) and were determined by the results of earlier consultations and the results of an information gathering phase.
Following the conclusion of the public exhibitions, the consultation now continues online where visitors can view the exhibition material and give their feedback, allowing more people to have their stay on an issue which is of great importance to the area.
Nestrans Chair, Councillor Ramsay Milne, said, “We are pleased that the events ran successfully and were well attended by both councillors and the public. They allowed us to hear an interesting range of views and opinions expressed and the consultants can now use this feedback in the on-going study.
“We appreciate that not everyone will have had the chance to come along to an event, or would prefer to spend time thinking about the various options before giving their feedback, which is why the consultation is open online until 15 December.
“Travel is such an important issue to so many people and businesses in the area and we want to allow as many people as possible to have their views heard on the options which have been identified.”
Following the conclusion of the public consultation, the consultants will then undertake further study to narrow and refine the possibilities as part of a Stage One Appraisal report early next year.
