Community bursary boost for GCRA

Local charity, GCRA, has received a £1,000 donation from the CALA Homes (North) community bursary which will enable the patient led organisation to start upgrading its stock of defibrillators.

GCRA runs 40 weekly cardiac prevention and rehab exercise classes in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray and is required to have the life-saving device at each class.

The charity is one of 11 community groups, charities and local organisations in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire which will receive a share of the housebuilder’s £10,000 community bursary this year.

Bert Hosie, Secretary and Director at GCRA, said: “CALA’s kind donation is helping to ensure the continued running of our weekly sessions. Defibrillators are a vital piece of kit in order for our classes to take place.

“As well as benefitting those in the area with cardiac conditions, we now also help people with a wide range of long-term health conditions including arthritis, cancer, diabetes, MS and depression.”

Steve Jarvie, Construction Director at CALA Homes (North), visited a GCRA class to meet some of its staff and members.

He said: “Last year, our community bursary initiative helped GCRA to add a new class to its weekly programme by providing the funds to purchase a new defibrillator.

“We are pleased to support the charity once again this year to help ensure the continued running of its classes which benefit so many people in the community.”

Other successful community bursary applicants include 17th Aberdeen Scout Group, Seaton Community Church, Pitscurry Day Service, SensationALL, Community Food Initiative North East (CFINE), Sunrise Partnership, Alzheimer Scotland, Aberdeen Riding Club, CHAS, and Aberdeen Science Centre.
