Members of Aberdeen City Council’s Anti-Poverty and Inequality committee today volunteered at the AberNecessities ‘Believe in Magic’ Christmas campaign ensuring “no child misses out on the wonder of the most magical time of the year.”
AberNecessities provides disadvantaged families with the essential and basic necessities. From maternity bundles for mother and baby to nappies, formula milk, clothing, toys and equipment for children aged 0-18 years, they recognise the importance of meeting the basic needs of a child in order to give them the best start possible.
Aberdeen City Council co-leader Councillor Christian Allard said: “Every child should experience the magic of Christmas. We are delighted to support AberNecessitities and the many other third sector organisations in the city who do an incredible job all year-round supporting families across Aberdeen.
“During the festive season, it is more important than ever to support the families who need it the most, and I am delighted that our committee has been able to volunteer and help at this busy time of year.”
Anti-poverty and inequality vice-convener councillor Desmond Bouse said: “The Believe in Magic campaign is a fantastic initiative to ensure no child misses out on the magic of Christmas.
“It was a great experience helping to pack Christmas Eve boxes filled with essentials and gifts for families.”
Danielle Flecher-Horn, founder of AberNecessities said: “As we battle through the charities toughest year since launching in 2019, we are delighted to welcome councillors to volunteer their time to create bespoke Christmas Eve boxes which will be gifted to local children.
“Each box contains not only essential items such as warm pyjamas and socks but also gifts, treats and games for the whole family to create happy memories with. I am sure the councillors will enjoy their time with us and be humbled not only by the incredible work of our team but the dedication throughout the city from all third sector organisations and the kind donors trying to support families at this magical, yet challenging time of the year.”
