Commitment means opportunity for Balmoral apprentices

A company committed to lifelong learning and achievement Balmoral Offshore Engineering recently celebrated its latest wave of modern apprenticeship awards.

Two candidates successful in achieving Modern Apprenticeship Level 3 Awards in Engineering were Fraser Gilbert and Chris Smith while Martin Laird achieved an SVQ 3 in Engineering Maintenance.

Balmoral has another four apprentices working at its Newcastle fabrication business and two at the company’s tanks manufacturing operation in Llantrisant, South Wales.

The company is currently recruiting its next intake of apprentices in Aberdeen and says that 90% of apprentices employed qualify and are offered full time jobs with the organisation.

Jim Milne, chairman and managing director, is fully supportive of the training initiatives across the company and said: “It’s very pleasing to see these young people commit to and complete their apprenticeships. This is only the beginning of the journey of course, now the real work begins.

“The time and investment made in training helps these young people develop their careers and allows us to work with them in terms of guiding them through their working lives. It helps to embed our company culture of hard work, initiative, effective communication and commitment into their work ethos.

“The Modern Apprenticeship scheme is a win-win situation for the individuals concerned and the company as a whole and I’d like to thank Tullos Training Ltd for their guidance throughout the process.”
