Co-op stores aim to raise thousands for local charity

Coop stores in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire will be exclusively raising funds for local charity, Me Too! throughout the months of July and August so they can continue their vital work across Aberdeen City and Shire.

All 21 stores across the area will have Me Too! charity cans at their till points for shoppers to donate any spare change into as well as organising in-store fundraising events. The charity is also hoping to raise awareness and to reach more people in need of their services. Chief executive Phionna McInnes stated “Many people that we support tend to have hidden disabilities, particularly autism and ADHD and it can be hard for these families who often fall between the cracks of support systems and charities when seeking support”

Store manager at Fountainhall Road said “Co-op are community driven, this fantastic charity is right on our doorstep and has truly touched our hearts. Everyone needs to be aware of the fantastic work this charity is doing on a shoestring and just how many people they are supporting, often out with their remit – with the introduction of airport lanyards and boost bands with Sport Aberdeen which can help many, many people”

Phionna McInnes also commented “I am overwhelmed and speechless at this opportunity Co-op are giving Me Too! I am just a mum trying to impact my community and make a difference”

Me Too! was established in 2015 and since then has provided support through a free quarterly what’s on guide to a readership of 28,500 that shows events and clubs suitable for families with disabilities. Me Too! is also the leading organisation for “Relaxed Sessions” in the area in which extra support and sensory considerations are provided for participants who may ordinarily struggle in mainstream activities.
