The third Russell Anderson Foundation (RAF) summer camps, being held this week and next at Aberdeen Sports Village is once again being supported by Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNR) as the event’s main sponsor.

In addition to providing much needed financial assistance, CNR staff are also attending the camps to assist as volunteers.

The camps, which are free of charge to the children who attend, and the support received from CNR has enabled RAF to enhance what is on offer to the youngsters.

This year, alongside sports with the RAF coaching team, snacks and live cooking demonstrations, a Craft and Creation room has been introduced for those who would like to make something special and take it home.

Barry Duncan, Managing Director, CNR International said: “I am delighted that CNR International continues to grow it’s mutually rewarding relationship with the Russell Anderson Foundation, by being main sponsor of the 2024 Summer Camps during July.

“I am also pleased that our employees and contractors will once again provide voluntary support during the camps.

“CNR International staff who have volunteered in previous year really enjoyed the experience and I’m sure those involved in 2024 will feel the same way, working together with staff from the Foundation to provide local children with a fantastic experience.”

Formed in 2012, the Russell Anderson Foundation began by delivering free football sessions to children in some of the more socially deprived areas of the city.

These days, what RAF does encompasses so much more than just football. The whole ethos of the Foundation is to empower children to make good decisions and give them a chance to reach their potential.

RAF works with over 2000 children on a weekly basis across its partner schools in the city and, although a large part of the work remains focused on health and well-being and being physically active, RAF also works with the schools in other areas to improve attainment levels and help with better outcomes for the pupils.

This includes practical cooking lessons, food support, mentoring programmes, workplace visits and employability opportunities to name some of the programmes RAF is currently delivering.
