A leading North-east cancer support charity is to mark National Breast Cancer Awareness Month throughout October with a special event.
In support of the awareness campaign, CLAN Cancer Support is to hold an open evening at CLAN House in Aberdeen on October 29.
The evening, which is open to everyone but has an additional focus on breast cancer care and support, will consist of a range of activities including hand, head, shoulder and neck taster massage sessions.
Attendees will also be able to meet with the charity’s specialist salon team for bra fitting appointments and talk with representatives from mastectomy bras and swimwear specialist Nicola Jane. A selection of information and guidance on Nicola Jane’s range of pocketed mastectomy bras, swimwear and prostheses will also be provided. Nicola Jane will return to CLAN House on October 30 for additional one-to-one fitting appointments.
Specialist staff from the NHS reconstruction unit will also be available throughout the evening to offer advice and information to attendees. Also in attendance on the night will be representatives from the Move More Aberdeen group which is held monthly within CLAN House.
Move More Aberdeen is a partnership between CLAN, Macmillan Cancer Support and Sport Aberdeen that aims to showcase the positive change that physical activity may have on improving the health and wellbeing of those affected by cancer.
Alongside the event, CLAN has also reinforced its range of free support services available throughout the month to those affected by breast cancer. Emotional support and counselling, a range of social and wellbeing activities, complementary therapies and support groups are all available either on a drop-in or appointment basis at its CLAN House headquarters in Aberdeen. A selection of these services is also provided from the charity’s range of regional support and wellbeing centres.
Lucy Whiteman, CLAN’s services manager, said: “Across October, CLAN will be shining a spotlight on a number of its free support services it provides to those affected by breast cancer and we’d be delighted to welcome you along to our event that we are holding within Aberdeen later on this month.
“Our support services that we offer are not only for those diagnosed with breast cancer but are also tailored to carers, family members and close friends, of any age. We want to reinforce that CLAN is here for anyone affected by breast cancer and I’d urge anyone who is interested in hearing more on how we may be able to help to please get in touch.
“Across the country, charities will be marking National Breast Cancer Awareness Month with various events and announcements and CLAN is looking forward to playing its part on behalf of the north-east of Scotland in placing an emphasis on this type of cancer and some of the services that may be able to provide comfort, support and help.”
