Clan Cancer Support has launched a Christmas tree collection service for people across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire to raise money for the charity.

Bookings are now being taken for the service which will run from January 3 -11 with postcodes allocated dedicated timeslots for collections.

The charity is working in partnership with Bilfinger UK which is providing transportation and volunteers to operate the service, with customers able to have their real trees collected on an agreed date for £10.

Keenan Recycling is also supporting the charity with the fundraising activity and will recycle all trees collected and reuse the chippings in local community projects and amongst its customers which include local farmers and the Balmoral estate.

Clan’s Christmas tree collection service is the latest initiative to be launched by the charity in a bid to explore more sustainable ways to generate income with all profits funding support for local people impacted by a cancer diagnosis.

Teresa Bremner, Clan’s commercial manager, said: “Once the decorations have been put away for another year, people in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire postcodes can turn their real trees into a cash donation for Clan by using our Christmas tree collection service.

“This is a completely new venture for us which offers local people an affordable, efficient and environmentally friendly solution to collect and recycle their real Christmas trees.

“We are incredibly grateful to Bilfinger and Keenan Recycling for their support in helping us set up and deliver this service and we’d urge customers to book their slot now to secure a collection in their area.”

Customers are able to book their Christmas tree collection through Clan’s website.

Derek Harcus, chief financial officer, Bilfinger Engineering and Maintenance UK, said: “At Bilfinger UK, we are committed to supporting our local communities and promoting sustainable practices. This initiative not only provides an environmentally friendly solution for disposing of Christmas trees but also helps raise vital funds for those impacted by cancer.

“We encourage everyone in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire to participate and make a positive difference this festive season."

Louise Robertson, Site Manager for Keenan Recycling, added: “We are very pleased to support Clan Cancer Support in their festive fundraising project. This is an innovative project to raise funds for an essential service for those impacted by cancer whilst enhancing recycling opportunities.

“Diverting organic waste from landfill is a key component in reducing climate change. We will compost the trees and produce a valuable fertiliser for local agriculture, landscapers and householders.”
