Clan Cancer Support has opened a boutique charity shop for children in Banchory.

The unit at 16A Bridge Street specialises in baby and children’s items including clothing and accessories, nursery items and toys.

The store will open from 10am – 4pm from Tuesday to Saturday with one full time staff member and volunteers on hand to help customers.

The charity chose to create the store after seeing a gap in the local market and the increasing popularity of pre-loved fashion.

The store is the fifth retail business currently being operated by the charity with sales from Clan shops in Aberdeen, Peterhead, Ballater and Orkney generating approximately 20% of Clan’s required annual income of £2.6million.

Lisa Barnard, Clan’s head of income generation and business development, said: “It’s been a long-held ambition of ours to establish a boutique store and we are excited to expand our retail offering with a unique, affordable and sustainable business for the local community in Banchory.

“We are very fortunate to receive high quality donations for children and with families facing an ongoing cost of living crisis, we thought a shop specialising in items for children was a natural choice.

“All of the items on display are in excellent condition and some have never been used. With prices starting from less than £1, it’s a one stop shop for those looking to update a child’s wardrobe or buy a new toy without breaking the bank while giving something back to a local charity.”

The shop caters for children aged from newborn to 12 years old with stock including clothing, shoes, educational toys, books and activities.

The charity is currently seeking high quality donations of children’s clothing and toys to sell with items accepted in store and at Clan House in Aberdeen.

Volunteering opportunities are also currently available within the store for those who have an interest in retail and would like to support their local cancer support charity.

The charity currently has five wellbeing centres across the north-east, Moray, Orkney and Shetland and provides emotional and physical support to anyone impacted by a cancer diagnosis.

Clan supports more than 2,000 people a year with services including listening support, specialist exercise and wellbeing support, NHS aligned complementary therapies, Children and Family services and patient accommodation.
