Clan Cancer Support opens new look Lerwick shop

A leading cancer support charity has reopened its popular shop in Lerwick following a period of refurbishment.

CLAN Cancer Support recently invested in the shop premises at 39 Commercial Road which now has increased space to stock and display a wider range of items for sale, improving the shopping experience for visitors.

The installation of more rails and shop fittings has made it possible for staff to make better use of the available space and also develop a dedicated area for CLAN merchandise as well as fundraising and awareness materials. The new look also includes a revitalised changing area allowing customers to try clothing in the shop.

As well as donated clothes, books and other items, the shop also receives works of art and literature from popular local talents, which often includes rare books, one off paintings, drawings and antique items. It will now be possible to display these more prominently around the shop.

CLAN’s centre and shop is well supported by the local community and the charity is also keen to hear from new volunteers who can dedicate time to help the charity, as the need for its services continues to grow.

Dana Mallarkie, CLAN’s area coordinator for Shetland, said: “We are delighted with the refurbishment of our shop and hope the new look will be attractive to new and existing customers. We’ve been able to make better use of the space in the shop which allows us to display a wider range of items in a more spacious and welcoming environment.

“This is an exciting time for CLAN in Shetland as we continue to develop our services in response to the needs of the local community. Now that the improvement works are complete we hope to increase our pool of volunteers who can help at the shop and support centre and are keen to hear from anyone who would like to give some time to help CLAN.

“Volunteers are essential to us and we are very grateful to those who continue to donate their time to the charity. They have a very important role to play and are essential in helping CLAN to provide a wide range of services, free of charge, to anyone affected by cancer.”
