Robert Gordon University (RGU) hosted a regional child protection event this week, along with the Child Protection Partnership.
The event – titled ‘Keeping Our Children Safe – Confidence in Practice’ – was designed to offer learning opportunities to a multi-agency audience drawn from across the North East.
It took place during the afternoon of Wednesday 9 November and saw two high-profile speakers giving talks on their expertise in the area.
Joanna Nicolas, Child Protection Consultant, focussed on the effectiveness of home visitations and how to manage difficult conversations with families.
While Moira McKinnon, co-author of the National Risk Framework, discussed how this material is used to support the assessment of children and young people in Scotland.
The event was attended by around 180 delegates from front-line child care practice, including social workers, teachers and school nurses and health visitors.
David Humphrey, lecturer in Social Work at RGU, said: “This event demonstrates the university’s continual efforts to educate and promote good child protection practice, through a partnership-based approach.
“All of us from the School of Applied Social Studies were delighted to work with the Child Protection Partnership to facilitate this event and I believe that everyone in attendance found it an insightful and valuable experience.”
