A charity for people with learning disabilities has been able to purchase a new wheelchair adapted mini bus thanks to staff at TAQA UK.

And to celebrate and say thank you, Archway revealed the new vehicle at the firm's Kingswells office.

Archway, which is based in Aberdeen, offers a range of caring services to almost 200 children, young people and adults with learning disabilities living in Aberdeen and throughout the Aberdeenshire area.

Those it supports often have more than one learning disability, complex health needs, associated physical or sensory impairments, challenging behaviour or autism.

Staff at TAQA UK chose Archway as its nominated charity for 2023/24 and took on a range of fundraising challenges and initiatives to raise funds.

These included participating in Run Balmoral, Ride the North, organising a football tournament, raffles, a sponsored swim, quiz night, Christmas events and even the Banchory Beast which in total raised close to £35,000.

Janine Davies, fundraising manager at Archway, said: "We were just delighted with the support we received and the funds raised.

"The mini bus will be based at our Two Mile Cross residential respite service. It supports over 60 children and adults, many of whom are wheelchair users.

"Thanks to TAQA UK, everyone there will be able to take part in a range of community-based activities, remain part of their local community and not isolated from it.

"This will help them to build self-confidence, and social and inter-personal skills and, just as importantly, have fun!"

She continued: "It has been an incredibly positive charity partnership. We really have been overwhelmed by the kindness and support of staff at TAQA UK not only fundraising for us but including us in social events by donating items to our charity shops and supporting activities we had organised.

"For as long as the wheels on our bus go round and round, we will remember our friends at TAQA UK and everything they did for us."

David Wilson, decommissioning director and leadership team representative on TAQA UK’s corporate social responsibility committee, said: “Supporting our local community is important to our people and a key part of our culture.

“It’s been humbling to see the time and energy given by TAQA UK staff to raise funds for Archway, and working with the charity has been a real pleasure.

“I’m very proud and pleased that the money raised has allowed Archway to purchase something that will make such a huge difference to many of the people it supports.”
