An Aberdeen-based family support charity is inviting guests to follow the example of the March hare and take tea at its inaugural Alice in Wonderland-themed ‘Through the Looking Glass’ afternoon tea fundraiser.
The event, which has been organised by the Friends of Home-Start Aberdeen, takes place at Aberdeen’s Norwood Hall Hotel on Sunday, May 15 and will be attended by Scottish actress and comedienne Elaine C. Smith. Those who come along can look forward to an enchanting afternoon of entertainment including magic tricks, a fashion show from John Lewis and a variety of stalls for browsing.
Refreshments include a glass of fizz on arrival, plus an assortment of Alice in Wonderland-inspired afternoon tea treats. Attendees will also have the opportunity to enter a special charity raffle to be held on the day.
“We are excited about hosting our first afternoon tea fundraiser and hope that the theme, which coincides with the release of the blockbuster film, will capture people’s imaginations,” says Ally Cartwright, chairperson, Friends of Home-Start Aberdeen. “There has already been a lot of advance interest in tickets, so we would urge people to secure their spaces as quickly as possible. All of the funds raised by the event will go towards helping vulnerable local families and we are incredibly grateful for the much-needed support.”
Home-Start Aberdeen has been working with families in the city for 29 years. The charity provides families who may be vulnerable or suffering from isolation with emotional and practical support in their own homes. Support is provided by trained volunteers, who spend two to three hours per week with a family in their own home.
Tickets for the ‘Through the Looking Glass’ afternoon tea cost £20. Orders can be placed by emailing admin@homestartaberdeen.org.uk or by telephoning 01224 693545.
