Aberdeen’s Integrity HSE is highlighting that the third edition of the Health and Safety Executive's guidance on The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 (L74) was amended in 2024 to emphasise employers’ responsibilities to take account of employees’ mental health in their first-aid needs assessment.
Steven Harris, Integrity HSE’s managing director, said: “Every business should be aware of the need to conduct an assessment that highlights how many physical first aiders they require.
"Following L74 (2024), businesses are now obliged to include due consideration of mental health which, considering the related statistics, is a welcome move.”
This marks a change intact from the regulator that appears far more focussed on mental health. This is not a surprise when it is considered that, year-on-year, mental health related illness accounts for almost 50% of lost workdays in the UK.
Integrity HSE offers a wide range of Qualsafe-accredited courses, which include management courses and the Level 3 Mental Health First Aid training course.
Delegates can book individual places on open courses at its training suite at 56 Queens Road, or clients can block book a course to be held at a venue of their choice (including offshore).
