Commenting on today’s announcement of the City Region Deal for Aberdeen, membership director at Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce Liam Smyth said:
“Today’s announcement is positive news for business in the North-east of Scotland.
“This deal isn’t going to fix everything. It’s a first step, but it’s a necessary first step.
“There has been a high and consistent level of investment by the private sector in recent years, and businesses have been calling for government investment into the region’s infrastructure as this is seen as the North-east’s greatest competitive weakness.
“We welcome the news that both Holyrood and Westminster governments are focusing on the region and recognise this need for infrastructure investment, which will underpin future economic growth and should stimulate further investment from the private sector.
“The Chamber has always believed that a strong public and private partnership is the key to supporting economic growth in the region.
“We completely support the need to empower regions to invest in their own future.”
