For nine decades Aberdeen International Airport has served the region. Facilitating more than just travel, it has been at the heart of the region’s prosperity.
A gateway to the North-east of Scotland the airport is a catalyst for the economic and social prosperity of the region supporting 3,400 jobs and generating £110M per year.
Connectivity is the lifeblood of any thriving community, and Aberdeen International Airport's network plays a pivotal role in underpinning the success of the region.
Whether it's welcoming international visitors to explore our rich cultural heritage or providing seamless access for businesses to reach new markets, the airport's role cannot be overstated. It is well established that a region with strong connectivity can expect to enjoy increased levels of trade, tourism and sustainable economic growth.
With each tourist's footsteps, Aberdeen and Grampian's economy thrives, creating jobs and opportunities that ripple throughout our communities. Nearly £750m was spent by international and UK visitors in this region in 2022.
The role of the airport as a transport hub and the efforts of the staff who ensure it was recognised last year at the UK National Transport Awards when it was crowned Hub of the Year.
Aberdeen International Airport also serves as a lifeline for our region's vital industries, none more so than the energy sector. As the energy capital of Europe, the airport plays an indispensable role in keeping the lights on, quite literally. From transporting essential personnel to remote oil rigs to facilitating the swift movement of equipment and supplies, the airport's services are integral to the uninterrupted operation of our energy infrastructure.
Our airport has been at the cornerstone of our region’s success story. From the first offshore helicopter flights to carrying more than 9,000 Dons fans to Gothenburg in 1983, the airport is part of the fabric of Aberdeen.
For 90 years, it has stood as a testament to the resilience, innovation, and spirit of the North-east. As we look to the future, we can rest assured that the airport will continue to soar, driving prosperity and connectivity for generations to come.
We are at the forefront of the aviation sectors journey towards Net Zero. Our airport welcomed its first supply of Sustainable Aviation Fuel back in 2022 delivered by Air bp for Bristow flights to the North Sea.
Aberdeen International Airport is also working with partners such as ZeroAvia, Loganair and easyJet looking at the infrastructure required to support hydrogen powered flight in the future.
In partnership with the Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce in August, we’ll be offering an exclusive behind the scenes tour of our airport marking 90 years of serving the North-east.
