Cash for Kids North-east Scotland has launched their annual Coat Appeal for 2024, renaming it the winter warmer appeal.
This year the winter warmer appeal needs public support more than ever to help provide warm clothing for children and young people across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire this winter.
The charity anticipates receiving more applications than ever for this appeal with numbers expected to rise to around 3,500. Applications for the winter warmer appeal are submitted by professionals working with the families, such as Health Visitors, Doctors, Teachers, or Social Workers, proving the need in the region is very real.
Many families in the North-east of Scotland struggle to afford suitable warm winter clothing for their children. These families, often working but on low incomes, are forced to prioritise between putting food on the table or heating the home during the winter months. As a result, purchasing winter jackets and suitable shoes becomes a financial crisis for these families.
To combat this issue, Cash for Kids has launched a fundraising appeal, to provide vouchers to children who lack warm winter clothes. The vouchers enable the children to purchase their own winter clothing, giving them the opportunity to experience having brand new clothes for the first time. Additionally, some of the supported groups use this as a learning experience, teaching children to budget and calculate their expenses.
Jamie Smith, charity manager added: “This year we are expecting more applications than ever before, this is a sign of the times in Aberdeen and our mission to ensure that no child goes without warm clothing at winter. We feel that remaining the coat appeal to the ‘winter warmer appeal’ allows us to reflect on the severity of the campaign and the real struggle especially in the freezing North-east weather! In 2023 the local community were phenomenal in showing their support and I hope this shines through again this campaign.”
To support the Winter Warmer Appeal and help children across North-east Scotland stay warm this winter, donations can be made through the organisation's website at https://hellorayo.co.uk/northsound/cashforkids/.
Every donation, no matter the size, will make a significant impact on the lives of these children and young people.
