Asthma care for young children is incredibly important, ensuring they receive the right attention and assistance to manage their condition effectively.
The Asthma and Allergy Foundation is thrilled to share a touching story about a little boy named Laine, who faced challenges due to asthma complications.
Recently, Laine was hospitalised and learned in hospital, with the support of staff and his parents, how to use an inhaler.
During his stay, he formed a special bond with a teddy bear used by the hospital staff to demonstrate inhaler techniques to parents and caregivers. This bear became a comforting friend during a tough time for Laine. Unfortunately, the bear had to remain in the hospital and couldn’t go home with him.
Seeing her son’s attachment to the bear, Laine’s mother reached out to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation for help, enquiring about purchasing one for his upcoming third birthday. However, these special bears are not for sale. Understanding how much this meant to Laine, the Asthma and Allergy Foundation decided to step in. The team was more than happy to send Laine one of its teddy bears as a birthday gift.
When Laine received his new bear, which he affectionately named "Asthma Bear," his mother, Danielle, reported: “He was so happy!”
This gesture not only brought a smile to Laine’s face but also reinforced the importance of managing asthma in a fun and friendly way.
The Asthma and Allergy Foundation continues to check in on Laine and his mother, and is pleased to report that he is doing well. Being part of his birthday celebrations through the sharing of Asthma Bear has been heartwarming for the team.
Caring for children with asthma is a team effort, and each small act of kindness can make a significant difference in their lives. The Asthma and Allergy Foundation is proud to support families like Laine’s on their journey and encourage everyone to ensure that children with asthma receive the care and attention they need to thrive.
