Digital workplace specialists Carbon has announced a major contract win with the University of Aberdeen that is set to deliver long-term environmental benefits and cost savings for the institution.
Aberdeen-based Carbon provides top quality multifunctional printers and scanners to help businesses and organisations transition to digital through a suite of workflow solutions.
The University of Aberdeen will be making the transition to more modern workspaces in a project that will see Carbon replace a traditional fleet of 240 laser printers with 116 Epson Heat-Free inkjet printers. The shift from laser to Heat-Free printing technology offers both environmental benefits for the University and significant long-term cost savings thanks to cutting-edge software that allows devices to run on less emissions, thus producing less waste.
The University’s new fleet of printers is expected to save up to 72500 Kwh of energy usage with a reduction in Co2 emissions of almost 20 tonnes.
Carbon, which has secured the five-year contract, will begin rolling out the project to install new devices across the University’s main campus at King’s College, as well as at four of its satellite campuses, including Foresterhill.
Carbon works with clients across the UK in several cross-sector industries, with an increasing uptick from educational institutions looking to replace their traditional print systems with a digital solution.
Carbon’s specialist team is focused on helping companies move away from laborious paper processes and outdated equipment to encourage smarter and more efficient ways of working.

The work to modernise the University’s printing fleet begins this week and is expected to take two weeks to complete.
