The newly established Business Beats Cancer Aberdeen board is set to make a significant impact in the fight against cancer by bringing together influential business leaders from across the region.
This initiative, part of a broader network across the UK, aims to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK through prestigious fundraising events.
Neale Bisset, co-chairman of Business Beats Cancer Aberdeen explained “After seeing the success of the Glasgow board, I was inspired to try and get a similar board up and running in the Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire area so reached out to Cancer Research UK and to Genevieve. The Aberdeenshire community have always supported local charities well, and I felt an Aberdeen board would be very well supported.”
He continued “It is vitally important for us to continue fundraising into cancer research, to try and develop new treatments, early diagnosis, and one day perhaps a cure. I believe it is a charity that can go hand in hand with the local cancer support charities, which are so well supported in the area, to try and put a stop to such a devastating disease which affects everyone.”
The board members, each bringing unique expertise and passion, are committed to supporting life-saving research and raising awareness within the local business community.
Board members appointed:
Neale Bisset, an award-winning director and business leader, serves as Co-Chair. As the co-owner and chairman of PMC Property Management & Lettings, Neale has extensive experience at board level and a strong background in property management. He is actively involved in charity fundraising events for cancer research and sees this role as an opportunity to leverage his business skills and connections for a vital cause.
Dr Monika Gostic, also Co-Chair, is a driven scientist and lecturer with a deep interest in nutrition and health. Her academic background in microbiology, genetics, and cancer research complements her qualifications in nutrition and mental health. Dr Gostic has been recognised with multiple business awards for her coaching work that has resulted in life-changing outcomes.
“As a scientist and a lecturer in Medical Sciences, I have always been close to the topic of cancer. Discussions at seminars and conferences always led towards finding ways of understanding, and consequently treating disease.” Dr Monika commented.
“There are so many different kinds and so many affected people, that funding of the research, and creating treatments, is always scarce. When I was doing my Postdoctoral Fellowship at Edinburgh University, I was working on developing a gut cancer model to investigate how we can utilise existing FDA-approved drugs to help with treatments. This work was only possible because I was funded by Cancer Research UK! “
Graham Smith brings over 30 years of experience in the Financial Services sector to his role as Treasurer. A Financial Adviser with Scott James & Associates, Graham is well-versed in financial planning for individuals and small businesses. He is eager to contribute his expertise to ensure the board’s finances are well-managed while supporting cancer research initiatives.
Dr Brenda Hector, who holds an MBA and works as an ActionCOACH business coach, serves as Secretary. Brenda has a strong commitment to helping others achieve their best and has been actively involved in pro-bono coaching for charities. Her personal connection to cancer research fuels her dedication to supporting Business Beats Cancer Aberdeen.
Scott Paton, Managing Director at Neospace, joins the board with a background in finance and accounting. Having raised significant funds for cancer charities previously, Scott is passionate about contributing to Cancer Research UK’s efforts through this new initiative.
Jason Stewart leads the Commercial and Membership function at Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce. With extensive experience in digital marketing and e-commerce, Jason is enthusiastic about using his skills to support the board’s mission while sharing personal connections to cancer within his family.
Anurag Rai adds his expertise as an award-winning Leadership Coach and Organisational Psychologist. Known for his work in leadership development and human behaviour, Anurag is committed to positively impacting lives through his involvement with Business Beats Cancer Aberdeen.

The Business Beats Cancer Aberdeen board is poised to make a meaningful difference by harnessing the power of their networks and expertise to support Cancer Research UK’s world-leading research efforts. Through glamorous fundraising events that combine fine dining with networking opportunities, they aim to engage the local business community in this crucial cause.
The highlight of the Aberdeen Business Beats Cancer calendar will be its inaugural fundraising ball in May 2025. The event will celebrate Cancer Research UK’s work and raise funds through auctions, raffles, and entertainment. The board aims for the ball to grow in success, matching the fundraising achievements of similar events in Glasgow and Edinburgh. Additionally, smaller fundraising activities are planned throughout the year to raise both awareness and support for the cause.
