CALA Homes & Scotmid Co-operative dig deep for Cults playgroup

CALA Homes has teamed up with Scotmid Co-operative Bieldside to offer a local green-fingered playgroup the chance to choose healthy snacks and grow their own vegetables.

Following a successful application for a Scotmid Community Grant, Cults Playgroup received Scotmid vouchers to allow the youngsters to purchase healthy daytime snacks from their local store in Bieldside.

CALA donated gardening tools including spades, trowels, rakes, watering cans and gloves to the playgroup, as well as an insect sculpture hotel and wildlife attracting seeds.

Fraser Carr, sales and marketing director for CALA Homes (North), said: “When we learned of the playgroup’s need, we thought it would be a good opportunity to help support the group and educate the children on the importance of the great outdoors.

“With our own CALA development on the doorstep of the playgroup, we want to ensure the younger generation are aware of their surroundings while developing a passion for creating beautiful places to live and cultivating their own gardens.

“We look forward to seeing the kids sowing the seeds of their own success and hope they enjoy their new garden tools.”

Scotmid Community Grants help to support local community groups with funding, the allocation of vouchers to Cults Playgroup followed a successful application.

Lynne Ogg, membership and community officer (north region), said: “The Community Grant application from Cults Playgroup fell into many Scotmid Grant categories; health promotion, children and education.

“We are delighted to give back to a community that supports the Bieldside store and we look forward to seeing the children in store helping to choose their own healthy snacks. “Scotmid aims to make a difference in the communities we operate in and we do this by enabling our customers and members to apply for a Scotmid Community Grant. We are also trialling a new initiative in North Region; Community Connect which will see good cause groups receiving awards of up to £15000.”

Julie Anderson, Cults Playgroup management committee chairperson, added: “Cults Playgroup are delighted to receive food vouchers for our local Scotmid shop to enable us to continue to provide a healthy snack for the children.

We are grateful to CALA and Scotmid for coming together to support our work as a local charity and will be able to invest in outdoor equipment, educational games and technology with the generous donation from CALA."
