CALA Homes (North) has donated £1,000 towards the cost of new kit and resources for forensic techniques workshops organised by Aberdeen Science Centre.
The organisation was awarded the sum as part of the housebuilder’s £10,000 community bursary scheme which was launched last year to mark 140 years since the company was established as the City of Aberdeen Land Association.
Aberdeen Science Centre works with community groups to help engage people in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) learning experiences. The new kit will enable Aberdeen Science Centre to expand its forensic techniques workshops to include methods including finger print analysis and DNA analysis.
Mike Naysmith, Managing Director at CALA Homes (North), visited Aberdeen Science Centre to see primary one pupils from Aboyne Primary School testing out the new CSI Workshop kit.
He said: “Aberdeen Science Centre offers some amazing workshops that are available to locals of all ages – many of whom have not had the opportunity to fully develop their science, technology, engineering and maths skills.
“It was fascinating to see the forensic kits which will be used in the organisation’s exciting and engaging classes. We’re delighted that our community bursary has been able to help support the sessions.”

“Being able to build on our current workshops, shows and interactive drop-in sessions ensures that our relationship with community groups can continue to grow by increasing the programme of activities offered.”
The CALA Homes (North) community bursary will support 12 different charities and community groups across Aberdeen and the surrounding area this year by funding vital equipment and services. Beneficiaries include Grampian MS Therapy Centre, Grampian Deaf Children's Society, Woodside Junior Club, and Maggie’s Aberdeen.
