People are being asked to give feedback on the Café Culture trial held in Aberdeen city centre earlier this year.

The three-month trial involved Belmont Street, Little Belmont Street and Gaelic Lane being closed to almost all traffic from 11am to 6pm, seven days a week.

Aberdeen City Council created the space in response to a request from business organisation Aberdeen Inspired which had had a demand for the space from the city centre business community.

Aberdeen City Council Deputy Leader Marie Boulton said: “We’d love to get feedback from people about what they thought about the Café Culture trial in the Belmont Street area.

“The trial was held to see how popular outside café areas would be as we know many northern European cities have them and we wanted to find out how much of a demand there would be in Aberdeen.”

Aberdeen Inspired chief executive Gary Craig said: “Throughout the course of the last three months, the Café Culture trial has helped stimulate a range of views and opinions from those who use the Belmont Street area on a regular basis and we’re looking to collate this feedback to determine the view the public took on the pilot scheme.

“We would like to hear what people thought worked and what they think could be altered or added in an effort to ensure it is as successful and efficient as possible for all involved.”

The only traffic allowed through at the time was for drivers using two private parking areas. Four Blue Badge spaces were relocated during the trial.

People are invited to give feedback through the online survey https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NPLF9XS, by emailing EmiAnderson@aberdeencity.gov.uk, or writing to Emily Anderson, City Development Officer, Aberdeen City Council, Business Hub 4, North Marischal College, Broad Street, Aberdeen, AB10 1AB.

The online survey will be closing on Monday but people can still email or write up until 20 November. The results of the survey will be taken into consideration before a decision is taken on if the trial will continue next summer.
