The Scottish government's Budget is set to pass as Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar announced his party would be abstaining from the vote.

As the ruling SNP administration is a minority one, is was set to require the support of at least one other party to ensure its Budget was voted through.

First minister John Sweeney had warned that voting against his Budget would be playing "right into the hands of Elon Musk".

But the Budget now looks set to pass through Holyrood as Labour leader Sarwar confirmed his party would abstain from the vote.

He told the BBC: "We, at this current stage, will abstain from this budget, because this budget is going to pass anyway.

"It has the votes for the another political party, at least one of the opposition political parties, so we are not going to vote against this budget."

He also said, the BBC reports, that his party would vote for the bill if ministers accelerated plans to effectively scrap the two-child benefit cap, which is already lined up for 2026.
