BrewDog founder James Watt has revealed he is open to buying a football club.

The millionaire businessman has already teased plans for a new venture following his exit from the Aberdeenshire craft beer giant.

There has been speculation about Watt potentially taking over English lower league side Torquay United.

Watt has now confirmed there was interest in a deal, but it fell through.

"It was something I was open to exploring, but unfortunately the stars did not align on this one," he said.

"But it is an amazing club with such a brilliant fan base."

The National League South side has this month been taken over by another group - the Bryn Consortium - subject to creditor approval.

Former Aberdeen FC manager Neil Warnock managed Torquay in 1993 and has been advising the consortium as they bid to buy the club, which had been in administration.

He is expected to have a role in the new set-up.
