The SNP is set to end its power-sharing agreement with the Scottish Greens with tensions between the parties reaching breaking point.
The First Minister is holding an unexpected cabinet meeting this morning where, it's reported, the Bute House Agreement will be ended.
It follows fury from Green Party members after the Scottish Government abandoned climate targets, along with the NHS deciding to pause the prescription of puberty blockers in Scotland for new patients. Party members were set to vote on whether they want to continue being part of government in coming days.
The agreement was struck in the wake of the 2021 election as the SNP fell one short of an overall majority in Holyrood.
The two parties entered government together in the summer of that year after the Greens picked up a record eight seats.
Climate target catastrophe
Last week's announcement from Mairi McAllan has seemingly proved catastrophic to the Bute House Agreement.
The Scottish Government ditched its ambition to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 75% by 2030, after missing eight out of 12 annual targets.
The Climate Change Committee (CCC) had warned the Scottish Government that it'd lost its lead over the rest of the UK in tackling climate change, and warned last month that the 2030 goal is no longer feasible.
Ms McAllan also delayed publishing her updated climate change plan detailing how the government was going to meet various targets. The plan has yet to be published.
The targets were first announced in 2019, before becoming the first country to declare a climate emergency as Glasgow hosted COP26.
Green co-leader Patrick Harvie said he was "embarrassed" by the decision.
Jobs on the line
Mr Harvie had said he'd quit as co-leader of the party should its members vote to end the power-sharing deal.
The Greens had called an extraordinary meeting to vote on the Bute House Agreement, leaving Mr Harvie's future hanging in the balance.
He previously said leaving government would be a "mistake", but shared the "distress" felt by members over recent political decisions.
Alba MSP Ash Regan had also this week filed a motion of no-confidence in the government minister.
This a developing news story.
