Deeside arts venue St Margaret’s Braemar is set to host the “sympathetic yet wickedly funny” Doric play Evie on Friday, August 9.
The one-woman performance, played by talented and acclaimed Aberdeen actor Yvonne Morton, was originally commissioned for the Doric Festival in 2003. Penned by Charles Barron, it received a string of awards and has toured extensively in the years since. The play focuses on Evie, a 70-year-old Aberdonian woman, about to experience a huge change in her life. She has a biting tongue, sharp wit and a lively sense of humour – of the North East vernacular and also universally familiar.
St Margaret’s Braemar has flourished as performance venue in recent years, with a growing and diverse programme of music, talks, dance and theatre.
‘Evie’ will last around two hours with an interval. Tickets are available now at £6 for kids, £12 for adults and £10 for Friends of St Margaret’s - https://www.stmargaretsbraemar.org.uk/events-calendar/evie
Commenting ahead of next week’s performance, actor Yvonne Morton said: “It is so important to keep the North-east tongue alive for future generations. I have been performing plays in Doric for 20 years and Evie has a very special place in my heart.
“She is a true Aberdonian and I really hope audiences will identify with her, her story, her humour and her feisty spirit!”
Venue manager Lyndsey Boden said: “St Margaret’s programme has gone from strength to strength this year, with more variety for our audiences than ever before.
“We’re so looking forward to the brilliant Yvonne Morton stepping into Evie’s shoes next Friday in what should be a really special performance.”
