The BP Aberdeen Hydrogen Energy Limited (BP AHEL) - a joint venture between energy giant BP and Aberdeen City Council - has awarded the first tranche of supply chain contracts for the Aberdeen Hydrogen Hub (AHH).
Launched in February 2022, AHH could create significant economic opportunities as part of the energy transition in the North-east, unlocking new economic opportunities worth upwards of £700m gross value added to Scotland’s economy by the end of the decade.
Hydrasun will provide hydrogen equipment services, while FES Group will handle electrical services.
Robertson Civil Engineering are set to design and construct the hub's physical infrastructure.
AECOM is the principle designer and owner's engineer, while Turner & Townsend will provide project services.
A report commissioned the year prior claimed an additional 700 jobs across the hydrogen industry could be created should AHH be scaled up to produce the fuel for export. However, a new report produced by BP AHEL found the supply chain will struggle to meet demand without extra support.
