‘Bonnykelly Jackpot’ tops 6,500gns at Spring Show

First in class prize-winner ‘Bonnykelly Jackpot’ achieved a sale topping price of 6,500gns whilst overall champion in the exhibition class achieved £6,000 at the Royal Northern Spring Show today at Thainstone.

'Bonnykelly Jackpot' is a 16-month old Charolais bull from Mr R Leggat, Mormond Prop, New Pitsligo.

The Spring Show, organised by the Royal Northern Agricultural Society (RNAS), saw Aberdeen & Northern Marts host its annual show and sale of over 100 pedigree bulls and 72 exhibition cattle - as part of the day which attracted buyers from Orkney to Devon to the event. The outstanding line-up from leading North and North East of Scotland herds also stepped into the spotlight for a live web broadcast of the shows and sales.

Alan Hutcheon, auction operations manager, said: "The Spring Show is a great opportunity for those in the sector to market their quality livestock – attracting visitors from near and far. With the addition of live video broadcasts of our shows and sales, in real time, our members and customers can see and judge the quality of livestock from this region for themselves and bid and buy online with confidence."

Pedigree bull entries - sponsored by chartered accountants Williamson & Dunn and judged by Lee Coghill, Muce Farm, Birsay, Orkney - saw the overall and Charolais championship titles snapped up by Mr M J Massie, Mains of Elrick, Ellon with his 21-month old Charolais bull ‘Elrick Justice’ which went on to realise 5,000gns at auction to Mesr J J Gordon, Wellheads, Huntly. Mr Massie also took the reserve champion title in the Charolais class for 20-month old ‘Elrick Jagger’ which sold for 4,800gns to H&J Riach, Barns, Crathes, Banchory.

The Limousin championship went to Mr & Mrs S Irvine, Braehead, Drummuir for 20-month-old ‘Anside Jazz’ and reserve to Mr A G Howie, West Knock, Stuartfield for 21-month old ‘Knock Jumbo’. The champion sold for 4,800gns to W M & C Alexander, Quintfall, Lyth, Wick while the reserve achieved 4,000gns to D & P Petrie, West Maldron, Torphins, Banchory later at sale.

Mr W J & J Green, Corskie, Garmouth took the champion and champion reserve titles in the Simmental Bulls class.
