The US President has revealed why he dropped out of the race for the White House.
Joe Biden, who was standing for his second term in the Oval Office, abandoned his campaign in July following months of speculation about his fitness to continue to serve for four more years.
The 81-year-old revealed he felt his candidacy was "going to hurt" his party's chances of being re-elected in November.
Speaking to CBS, President Biden said: "Look, the polls we had showed that it was a neck and neck race which would have been down to the wire. But what happened was, a number of my Democratic colleagues in the House and Senate thought that I was gonna hurt them in the races.
"And I was concerned if I stayed in the race, that would be the topic [journalists] would be interviewing me about - 'Why did Nancy Pelosi say [this]? Why did someone [say this]?'
"And and I thought it would be a real distraction."
Ms Pelosi, a former House Speaker and a long-term friend and ally of the President, had urged him to step aside.
President Biden also admitted that he thought of himself as a "transition President" when he ran in 2020, adding that it's "hard" for him to say his own age.
