Befriend a Child is celebrating 50 years of transforming the lives of children and young people across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.
To honour the milestone the charity is hosting its Golden Anniversary Ball which will be held on May 30 2025, at The Chester Hotel.
This special evening will not only celebrate five decades of dedication to local children but also ensure the charity’s vital work continues for the next 50 years.
Guests of the ball will be welcomed by the Befriend a Child team and treated to a drinks reception with a glass of fizz, followed by games, speeches, and a three-course dinner. The evening will include fundraising activities and dancing, hosted by Kevin Littlejohn, who will entertain guests throughout the night.
The event will also feature a charity auction, exclusive raffle, and live entertainment to keep the celebrations going all night long.
Sarah Misra, CEO at Befriend a Child, said: “This is a truly special occasion, marking 50 years of making a difference in the lives of children across Aberdeen City and Shire. The support received over the years has been invaluable, and this milestone event will be a fantastic opportunity to celebrate and look ahead to the next 50 years of friendships.”
The charity, which provides befriending and mentoring programmes, group activities, and family support for disadvantaged children, recently confirmed that civil engineering contractors, WM Donald, will be the headline sponsor of the ball. WM Donald has supported the event for four consecutive years, and the charity has expressed gratitude for their continued support, particularly in this special anniversary year.
Elaine Donald, director at WM Donald, said: “Supporting Befriend a Child’s work with children and young people is an honour. Being part of the Golden Anniversary Ball is a privilege, and we look forward to celebrating 50 years of this inspiring organisation.”
Tickets are available for £100 per person, or £1,000 for a table of 10. Sponsorship opportunities are also available. Funds raised from the event will directly contribute to the charity’s vital programmes, ensuring continued support for hundreds of children living in challenging life circumstances.
Each year, the charity assists over 250 children and young people, aged 5-16, who experience challenges such as poverty, abuse, neglect, and poor mental health.
Befriend a Child matches children with trained volunteer befrienders and mentors who serve as positive role models, helping them to build confidence, explore new opportunities, and develop brighter futures. The charity also operates youth clubs in Northfield and a family support service, providing emotional support and essential items to families in need.
